with great love. You taught us to

trust in God's love and do our best to

love our fellow man.

Saint Therese, you said that you

would spend your time in heaven

doing good on earth.  Please ask

God to grant me the favor I ask.

Pray for me that I might love God

above all things, love my brothers

and sisters in Christ, and remain

God's faithful servant in life and

PATRONESS OF MISSIONARIES, AVIATORS & FRANCE (1873-1897)

 St. Therese, affectionately called "The Little Flower", is one

of the most popular of the modern saints. Countless

stories exist of the faithful receiving a rose unexpectedly to

signal that their prayers to St. Therese will be answered. She promised

during her life that she would spend her heaven doing good upon

earth, and that she would let fall a shower of roses from heaven,

meaning miracles and favors from God.

As a Carmelite nun in France, she died at only 24 years of age.

She had an accomplished life nonetheless. She sought during her life

to find the quickest way to God. What she discovered was published

in her book, Story of a Soul. She believed that by offering little

sacrifices to God, as well as humility, love and daily prayer, one could

quickly increase in holiness. She thought that anyone who love God

could become holy.

Because of her great insight, she was canonized a saint only 28

years after her death. In 1997, St. Pope John Paul II names her

Doctor of the Church. St. Therese is one of only 33 others in the

history of the Church to be given this honor.
