Hovena to
St. Martha
St. Martha, I resort to thy
aid and protection. As proof
of my affection and faith,
I offer thee this light,
which I shall burn every
Tuesday. Comfort me in
all my difficulties and
through the great favors
though didist enjoy when the
Saviour was lodged in thy
house, intercede for my
family, that we be provided
for in our necessities. I ask
a thee. St Martha, to
overcome all difficulties as
thou didst overcome the
dragon which thou hadst at
thy feet.

Verse on the back:
St. Martha
Patroness of Cooks
There are three readings in the Bible that tell us of Jesus
visiting the home of Martha, and there is a phrase in
John's Gospel that says "Jesus loved Martha and Mary
and Lazarus." Through these readings, we learned of the special
relationship that Jesus had with Martha, her sister, Mary, and her
brother, Lazarus.
During the first visit of Jesus, as told in the book of Luke
10:38-42. It was important to Martha that she served Jesus and
His Disciples with hospitality and generosity. The first visit of
Jesus and His words helped Martha to realize that listening to
Jesus was more important than worrying about the many tasks
of serving guests.
The book of John 11:1-53 tells of the next visit of Jesus
when Martha is mourning the death of her brother, Lazarus.
During this visit when speaking with Jesus, Martha proclaims her
belief in Jesus as the son of God, and her faith the Lazarus
would rise again in the resurrection on the last day.  This is when
Jesus raised her brother Lazarus from the dead.
The telling of the last visit with Jesus in John 12:1 - 9,
gives us a clear picture of Martha serving Jesus without false
impressions or commotion, and with simple dignity of purpose.
