The Advent season is a time and preparation for the celebration of Christ's birth. It takes place the four weeks prior to Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Lutherans in Germany are credited with the tradition of the Advent wreath, which is typically made of evergreen and adorned with four candles to symbolize each week of Advent. Three purple candles signify royalty and one pink candle reflects the joy of His bith.
The First Sunday of Advent:
We set aside time to contemplate Christ's coming and to take spiritual stock of ourselves. God will give us the divine assistance we ask, to look at our lives and make them better in preparation for Christ's birth.
The Second Sunday of Advent:
So often, our ways are well-trod and our eyes do not see beyond the next step. "Our hope is in the Lord, who made heaven and earth." Our confidence makes us willing to get out of ruts and create a smooth path for the Savior.
The Third Sunday of Advent:
Advent is almost over. We can see our efforts beginning to bear fruit in the way we think and act. What a joy to know we are shining Christ's light for others to see. His guidance is a wonderful gift.
The Fourth Sunday of Advent:
We have come a long way on our advent journey. We must take the lessons learned into the new year. With God's gift of faith, we will keep Christ at the center of our lives. We will keep Christmas in our hearts all year long.
